Co-requisite: Symphonic Band 10, 20 or 30. Students who participate in Jazz Band MUST also be registered in a Concert Band class, unless they have special permission from the director.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Jazz Band gives students the opportunity to explore all facets of performing in a large jazz ensemble. Students will be exposed to a variety of jazz idioms including blues, swing, Latin, and funk. Students will also be encouraged to explore improvisation and the creative process. Preference will be given to students who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drum set, bass guitar, electric guitar, and piano. Auditions will be held for positions if the number of interested students becomes too large. Rehearsals are held OUTSIDE THE REGULAR SCHOOL DAY (typically Tuesday and Thursday after school from 3:30 to 5:00 pm). Performance opportunities include: concerts, festivals, workshops, and community performances, including the Snow Ball Swing Dance.
